Seminar talks from Hobson Lab postdocs

Current Hobson Lab postdoc Dr. Annemarie van der Marel and soon-to-be Hobson Lab postdoc Grace Smith Vidaurre will both be giving seminar talks next week as part of UC Biology’s seminar series.

Annemarie will be giving her talk “Socioecological environment of group-living environments”. Annemarie joined the Hobson Lab in February 2020. She will be talking mostly about her previous work on sociality in an invasive squirrel population, but will also talk about some preliminary work with parakeet sociality (sadly, like many others, we had to cut our field season short this spring due to the pandemic). You can read more about Annemarie’s research on her website.

Grace will be giving her talk “Learned calls of monk parakeets exhibit sensitivity and resilience to invasion”. Grace is currently finishing her doctorate work at New Mexico State University (with Tim Wright) and will be joining the Hobson lab in Spring 2021. She was awarded an NSF Postdoctoral Research Fellowship and will be conducting research co-mentored by Erich Jarvis and me. She will be based full-time with the Jarvis Lab at Rockefeller University, but will be collaborating with the Hobson Lab and visiting UC during her fellowship. You can read more about Grace’s research on her website.

The talks will be on Monday Oct 12 from 16:00-17:00 US eastern. Contact Liz if you would like a link!
