Bobwhite quail work on-campus

Bobwhite quail care

We are recruiting student volunteers or work/study students to help us provide daily care to our Bobwhite quail in the lab.

  • Students should be able to commit to a minimum of 3 hours of work per week.
  • Duties will include changing food and water, providing health checks, and potentially assisting in social experiments.
  • Students must be willing to complete animal care training (usually a 2-4 week process).
  • Students that can provide care over weekends and/or over the summer will be strongly preferred.

  • Students will observe and record all social interactions.
  • Must be willing to commit to 5 hours per week minimum in the lab on computers.
  • Students will be volunteers initially and may be moved to paid work, especially if they qualify for work/study.

Learn to code

Learn to code with penguins!!

I will be teaching my “Analytical Tools for Behavior” course (BIOL3017) in Fall 2024. This is a beginner-friendly learn-to-code course based around animal behavior concepts and using data from penguins.

There is increasing awareness that data science and computational thinking are critical skills for undergraduates to develop. The goal of this course is to provide students with a hands-on approach to learning how to analyze animal behavioral data using the programming language R. The course is designed for complete beginners: no experience coding is required or expected.

There are no exams or quizzes, grades are based solely on work completed and participation.
